Visitation Lawyer in Framingham
Crafting a Workable Visitation Schedule
A workable visitation schedule is driven as much by practicalities as by legalities. As a family law attorney serving clients in Framingham, Wellesley, Newton and the Metro West area of Massachusetts, I will help you craft a visitation agreement that is flexible and enables you preserve your relationship with your child.
What is a Parenting Plan?
In Massachusetts, a visitation schedule is known as a parenting plan. It is a court-ordered agreement between you and your spouse that spells out when children will be with you and when they will be with your spouse.
A standard visitation agreement may allow the parent without primary residential custody to see his or children on the following days:
- Every other weekend
- One evening during the week
- Alternate holidays
- An extended period of time during the summer and school breaks
The standard visitation schedule sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. If you and your spouse communicate well and live in the same school district, you may be able to craft a parenting plan where you each have the children 50 percent of the time.
Maximizing your parenting time: Even under a standard visitation schedule, there are many things you can do to maximize the amount of time you spend with your children. Examples are volunteering as a coach of your child’s sports teams, volunteering to help at school trips and other events at your child’s school, sharing e-mail and having Web cam visits.
